However, along with increasing the length of time on earth, the quality of an individual’s time on earth is equally important. The state of your health while living is called your healthspan.

 

Healthspan is the period of life spent in good health, free from the chronic diseases and disabilities of aging. The global health span in North America is 66 years, while the lifespan is 79 years. Although we can prolong life with life saving surgeries, technologies and new medical discoveries, if we wish to continue to push lifespan further, we must also focus on improving healthspan. If healthspan does not continue to increase at the rate of lifespan, it will not only impede the progress of extending lifespan, but the average quality of a human’s life will decline.
